The Uni-Mount Bohemians – The Unicorns – have written a new chapter in their history, achieving what no women’s side at the club has ever done before: promotion to the 2026 Lotto NRFL Women’s Championship. The Mt Wellington-based team sealed their place with a 3-1 victory over Rotorua’s Lakes in the second leg of the play-off at Tamarahi Reserve, Ngongotaha, completing a 5-2 aggregate triumph after winning the first leg 2-1 at home.
Reborn in 2020 after the women’s programme had fallen away, Uni-Mount relaunched with a clear mission — to get women playing football again at the club and to build a sustainable pathway for the future. From one side stitched together by community, the programme has grown into three highly competitive women’s teams, each pushing for success in their respective leagues.
Covid disruptions in 2020 and 2021 stalled back-to-back championship runs, but the Unicorns refused to be stopped. In 2024, they claimed the Division One title, and this season, they were relentless once again: 23 games, 19 wins, three draws, and only a single defeat on their way to the NRF Women’s League One crown. Their play-off victory over an unbeaten Lakes side, champions of Waikato-Bay of Plenty, was the ultimate clash of champions.
Games Won Draw Lost For Against
2024 16 14 2 0 61 44
2025 21 17 3 1 78 21
This achievement is more than promotion — it is the fulfilment of a long-held dream, the transformation of aspiration into immortality, and a moment that will stand forever in the club’s history.
On behalf of everyone at Uni-Mount Bohemians, congratulations to all the players, staff, and supporters who have made this historic milestone possible.
